Apprenticeships for Students

Earn While You Learn, Work Integrated Experience

An apprenticeship is an “earn while you learn” model in which students are paid for on-the-job training while attending school for related instruction. Apprentices will be hired and paid directly by employers. A successful apprenticeship may lead directly to a permanent position with the employer.

Most of our apprenticeships are not registered apprenticeships through the Department of Labor. They are longer than internships, typically lasting six months or longer, depending on the position. Students attend school while gaining hands-on experience through the apprenticeship.

How do I apply?: Apprenticeship positions are posted by employer partners. Students apply directly through the job posting and follow the employer’s application process.
Students are encouraged to follow Metro State’s Career Center Handshake account and LinkedIn group to receive alerts when apprenticeship opportunities are available.

When does the next cohort start?: Cohorts typically begin at the start of each academic semester. Dates may vary by employer and position.

Who is eligible?: Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled at �鶹ֱ�� and meet the qualifications listed in the employer’s position of posting.

I am in a graduate program; may I still apply?: Yes. Graduate students may apply if they meet eligibility and position requirements.

Will I receive academic credit if I get hired as an apprentice?: Academic credit is not automatically included. Some programs may offer credit options; students should connect with the Career Center at career.center@metrostate.edu .

Can I continue as an apprentice if I’ve graduated or withdrawn from university?: Apprenticeships are designed for enrolled students. However, students should contact their supervisor and connect with the Career Center at career.center@metrostate.edufor further discussion.

Is tuition assistance available?: Tuition support from �鶹ֱ�� may be available depending on funding availability and is not guaranteed.
Employers are encouraged to offer tuition reimbursement, assistance, or scholarships as an effective recruitment and retention incentive.
